Princess Bouncerella, the tomboyish princess who manages to endear herself to many in short order, can now be found in the appstore! It’s a good thing that a picture book can’t be read to pieces on the iPad, otherwise it would be likely to quite rapidly occur with this one. Bouncerella (or ‘Stuiterbal’, or ‘Sausewind’) is read to you in an amazingly entertaining fashion, and the animations are a treat.

Just like in the book store, it’s possible to preview Princess Bouncerella before buying it. You can find it among the free apps, the download providing you with the first three pages in all available languages and including all special functions. If you decide to make the purchase, a few taps will get you the full app, removing the superfluous lite version from your iPad automatically. Enjoy!

It may be a little icky, a princess who picks her nose. But like in The Story Of The Little Mole Who Knew It Was None Of His Business, a little icky can be a lot of fun. The obstinate Princess Bouncerella plays the starring role in the first app by Liz Ditters, a talented debutante.

This will also mark the first time that Orange Books releases a picture book that was tailor-made for the iPad. This beautiful app has not yet been published in book form, though plans for this are in the works. The story of Liz Ditters has been smoothly written, and the humourous illustrations are sure to appeal to young readers.

Princess Bouncerella is expected to hit the Appstore by the end of September.

The development of iPad Apps is not a simple matter for most any organisation or publisher, because the market is still so new that true experience at publishing houses is yet lacking. Just to name an issue, Apple, as maintainer of the iStore, can decide to change the terms and conditions for the approval of an App at any given time.
Publishing houses are required to learn how to handle this, and of course make the proper investments. At Orange Books, we are currently in the middle of researching what works better: To publish a stand-alone free Lite version and use it to promote the full paid version, or to publish a single App that includes an IAP (which stands for In App Purchase). Using an IAP, you can basically purchase an expansion to the App that you’ve already installed.
We will be testing the IAP method with ‘Freek is in Love’. The first 6 pages are offered free of charge, after which the rest of the book can be purchased by means of an IAP. We already have a few ideas about what the results of this test will be, but ‘to measure is to know’!

After the success of the picture book ‘The Cat That Wouldn’t Move’, we have been working hard to make our next App, ‘Fonzie In Love’. Fonzie is at least as much fun as The Cat, and that has definitely been a success! The entertaining love story of Fonzie the hare is written by Peter Brouwers, and the attractive illustrations are drawn by Marijke ten Cate. We hope to deliver everyone a pleasant surprise with subtle animations, atmospheric sound effects, and a professional voice-over.

The time has come! It’s in the App Store now: The cat that wouldn’t move. Orange Books’ first app, and within a few days it will even be available in a Lite version, for free. We are imagining the kids sitting on the couch and have ‘De kat…’ read to them again and again… After many many times they will probably be able to rattle off whole parts of the book (I still know some parts of books from my childhood myself). Meantime we almost know the story of The cat, in all languages, by heart ourselves. Fortunately it isn’t boring yet, which is a good sign of course!
